JUDGES

  • Tom McLean

The smile on the face of judge Tom McLean says it all—he loves peppers, the hot and flavorful kind, not the green bell he terms the “pigeon of the pepper world.” Active in Cincinnati Chili Pepper Club for more than 25 years, the club grows from seed 40+ varieties and each season Tom tends to 75-100 plants in his home garden. He makes fresh salsa, bottles hot sauce (lemon drop is a fave), dehydrates to mix with salt, and freezes for winter meals. Tom also touts his own award winning chili.

  • Martin Eisele

Martin is no stranger to chili. When he was tall enough to reach the sink, he was doing dishes in the kitchen at Mt Healthy Gold Star. His mom and her dad opened the first Gold Star franchise there in 1965, so chili has been in his blood since birth. His extended family has gone on to grow the business into over 70 locations.

  • Matthew Cuff

Matt is the founder and owner of Just Q’in BBQ Restaurant and Catering. Just Q’in began as a food truck in 2009. Just Q'in opened a restaurant in Newtown in 2011 (now closed) and Walnut Hills in 2016.

In addition to the restaurant business, Matthew is a licensed minister, past president of the Walnut Hills Business group and currently sits as chairman of the board of the Walnut Hills Redevelopment foundation and is a member of C12 roundtable for Christian business leaders. In his “spare time” Matt also competes in triathlons and marathons.
